MassageFor many years humans have been enjoying the beneficial effects of massage so why not dogs! Massage and stretching routines have a beneficial effect on the general health and psychological well-being of the dogs. These include improving circulation, stimulating the lymphatic system and supporting the immune system as well as reducing anxiety and stress. Massage techniques are used to relieve muscle tightness resulting from injury, surgery, poor conformation, or athletic performance. For the family pet - a relaxation massage or massage to ensure your canine companion can continue to catch his frisbee on their walks! For the senior dog - massage to reduce pain caused by the effects of aging on the joints - helping to keep your dog mobile. For the working or competition dog - keep your dog at the top of his game with routine massage to reduce muscle spasms and painful trigger points and increase flexibility and range of motion for maximum performance. For the injured dog - when injury occurs and a dog is not as mobile as usual, muscles begin to waste away through disuse. During the healing process scar tissue and adhesions may form resulting in restricted movement. Massage helps to 'free up' the tissues and re-establish the circulation necessary for the body's natural healing process returning your dog back to its pre-injury lifestyle as quick and pain free as possible. Massage sessions are available at Hydropaws or in your own home (locally), and are available to dogs boarding at Hydropaws and as part of more complex rehabilitation programmes. Sessions usually last between 45 mins to 1 hour. To arrange an appointment or discuss massage further please contact us. |
